In May 2007 Dmitri Malyshev was appointed to succeed Alexander Novikov as Dean of the Film Institute.

In July 2005 Andrei Plakhov was elected President of FIPRESCI.

The Museum of Cinema has left its headquarters at KinoTsentr at the end of 2005. It moved to premises on the Mosfilm territory. Its film programme will be run at various venues in Moscow. 

In October 2004 Mikhalkov was re-elected chairman of the Filmmakers' Union at the VI Congress. The number of delegates taking part in the vote was non-quorate. In December 2004 Vladilen Arseniev becomes chairman of the Moscow section of the FU. The Producers' Section is headed by V. Dostal. In February 2005 V. Matizen is elected chairman of the Guild of Critics. 

On 9 March 2004 Aleksandr Sokolov, former Dean of the Moscow Conservatory, was confirmed as new Minister of Culture and Mass Communication.

On 13 March 2004 Mikhail Shvydkoi, hitherto Minister of Culture, was named as Head of the Federal Agency for Culture and Cinematography (FACC), also called Roskultura.

On 27 April 2004 Aleksandr Golutva and Dmitri Malyshev were named deputies heads of the Federal Agency.

On 30 May 2004 Sokolov was confirmed as Minister (following the presidential elections).

On 31 May 2004 Sergei Lazaruk was confirmed as Head of the Cinema Section in FACC.

On 9 December 2003 Vsevolod Shilovsky has been confirmed as the new artistic manager of the Dom Kino, Moscow. 

On 1 November 2003 Vladimir Putin visited the Mosfilm studios. The absence of Nikita Mikhalkov during this meeting was widely commented upon in the media. The citation of some press comments on Mikhalkov in Kinoprocess No.6 (2003) left in doubt both the management and the financing of further issues of the invaluable bulletin.

Festivals

The NIKA is the equivalent of the Oscar Academy Award, awarded each year in April. Awards and nominations are listed here.

The Moscow International Film Festival MIFF is held annually in the second half of June.  The 29thI edition will take place from 21-30 June 2007 under new management.
